China's Plywood Exports to Australia Hit Record Over 12 Mm³

Despite a near-collapse in Australia's Plywood imports, China's Plywood exports surged to a record12.99 million cubic meterslast year, per Chinese customs data. Driven by new demand in the Middle East and Asia, hardwood-dominated trade grew over 7% YoY, even as prices softened.

Hardwood Plywood dominated exports at 78% (≈10.10 Mm³), far outpacing softwood (15.4%, ≈2.00 Mm³) and tropical (6.36%, ≈0.83 Mm³) Plywood.

Australia became China's 6th-largest export market, importing over 600,000 m³ (+22% YoY) at an average price of $920/m³, higher than other major buyers. Top markets included the Philippines (983k m³), UAE (934k m³), Saudi Arabia (750k m³), and Nigeria (644k m³).

The 2025 volume surpassed the 2021 pandemic peak of 12.14 Mm³, even as U.S. trade plummeted from 1.83 Mm³ (2015) to just 150k m³ last year, hit by anti-dumping duties.
